Cerne Abbas Residents Association Ltd (known as CARA) is a company limited by guarantee, with 58 members – one per property.  CARA owns the communal areas of Cerne Abbas and is responsible for their maintenance. The full range of responsibilities and duties of CARA is defined in the Memorandum and Articles of Association and in the purchaser’s and vendor’s covenants set out in the title deeds.

CARA Council members are elected from amongst the homeowners.  The current Directors – elected or confirmed at the 2024 AGM and those who have resigned or volunteered since that meeting – are Chris Lamb (director), Wyn Jones (member), Diane Kendrick (member), Claire Cheswick (member)  and John Dåvé-Potter (member).  Previous member Peter Alcock has retired from Cara Council.  The chairperson for each meeting may be voted by the members.

Council meets approximately every two months and CARA holds an AGM of the entire membership, normally in July.

Nettleship Sawyer Ltd. (whose Agnes Sawyer also acts as CARA Company Secretary) are employed by CARA as its managing agents to collect the quarterly charge, undertake periodic surveys of the communal areas and external surveys of the private properties, and to arrange and supervise some maintenance contracts.
